Pokémon Masters EX: Best N & Zekrom Sync Grid Builds

N finally makes his appearance with Zekrom at his side to terrify opponents with two powerful attacks and passive abilities to bypass the need for a full move gauge bar. Zekrom’s abilities and moves already make the pair a juggernaut but several tiles can increase their power even further. N & Zekrom have everything to gain from having Volkner & Luxray create an Electric Terrain and SS Blue & Blastoise to take care of Zekrom’s weaknesses.

The best N and Zekrom Sync Grid Builds are Outrage Focused or Bolt Strike Focused depending on what other teammates you are pairing them with.

Universal 3/5 Upgrades

HP +10

Attack +10

Defense +5

Sp. Def +10

Speed +5

Bridging Bolt Strike Power +50

Static Shock 3

Universal Recommended Lucky Skill:

Critical Strike 2

Since the sync level 3 builds focus on either Bolt Strike or Outrage, there are few common tiles between them. Zekrom’s Bridging Bolt Strike, gains +50 power as the universal theme among the builds is to devastate opponents with its sync move. Static Shock 3 also increases the sync move’s damage by 30% against paralysed targets.

Whenever a move has Move Gauge Refresh or MP Refresh, the chance of returning one bar to the move gauge or one use of the move is (1+X) x 10%. Meaning MP Refresh 2 has a 30% chance of activating.

Zekrom may have no way of increasing its critical-hit chance itself, but lucky skill Critical Strike 2 is always recommended for any heavy-hitting Pokémon. It increases the damage of any critical hit, so having an ally like SS Elesa & Rotom or Sabrina & Alakazam is wise.

However, there is one build that is an exception that does NOT want Critical Strike 2 below.

Sync Grid Builds

Sync Level 2 Build

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

All Upgrades:

HP +20

Attack +15

Defense +5

Sp. Def +10

Speed +25

Bolt Strike Move Gauge Refresh 2

Bolt Strike Hostile Environment 1

Outrage Power +2

Outrage Move Gauge Refresh 3

Outrage Confusion Boon 3

Outrage Paralysis Synergy 3

When at sync level 2, tiles that make the level 3 builds worthwhile remain locked and your strategy feels almost the same as when you first pulled the sync pair. This build picks the best tiles from each move so Zekrom is versatile and spending your orbs feels worth it.

Bolt Strike picks up +5 accuracy but it’s taken to reach other tiles since one use of Ideas Will Prevail! increases Zekrom’s accuracy enough to hit 100% accuracy. Hostile Environment 1  adds an additional roll, giving you two 20% chances to paralyze the opponent.

Outrage gains two passive abilities that help increase Zekrom’s damage with the move: Confusion Boon 3 and Paralysis Synergy 3. Each increases the move’s power by 30% when active. Confusion Boon 3 will only activate if Zekrom itself is confused, meaning getting Clearheaded as your lucky skill will make this ability useless. Paralysis Synergy only affects opponents that are paralyzed.

Don’t like a tile? Pick up the +25 power sync move tiles, additional power to either of the attacks, stat additions, or X Attack MP Refresh 2.

Outrage Power +4

Outrage Move Gauge Refresh 3

Outrage Paralysis Synergy 3

Bridging Bolt Strike Power +25

Choose one:

Clearheaded

Outrage Confusion Boon 3

Recommended Lucky Skill if using Confusion Boon 3:

Lessen Confusion 9

Outrage may be less powerful than Bolt Strike, but it allows Zekrom to attack more frequently.

Outrage Paralysis Synergy 3 increases the move’s power when attacking a paralyzed opponent. Have an ally paralyze an opponent rather than Zekrom’s Bolt Strike. Bridging Bolt Strike gains a total of +75 power. Picking up Clearheaded eliminates Outrage’s drawback of confusing Zekrom on use. Critical Strike 3 remains the best lucky skill for Zekrom in this case.

However, picking up Outrage Confusion Boon 3 instead will increase the move’s damage by 30% so long as Zekrom is confused. In this case, the lucky skill Lessen Confusion 9 will decrease the chance Zekrom hits itself in confusion by a significant amount. When searching for this lucky skill, hang on to the highest Lessen Confusion number you can until you reach nine. Do not get the Clearheaded lucky skill since it stops Zekrom from ever being confused.

Bolt Strike-Focused Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

Unique Upgrades:

Attack +5

Bolt Strike Accuracy +5

Bridging Bolt Strike Power +75

(Build Link)

MGR Variant:

HP +10

Speed +5

Bolt Strike Move Gauge Refresh 2

Bolt Strike Move Gauge Refresh 3

(Build Link)

No MGR Variant:

Sp. Def +5

Speed +5

Bolt Strike Power +3

Bridging Bolt Strike Power +25

Bolt Strike is a powerful and costly Electric-type move that has a 20% chance of paralyzing the opponent, but grab a more reliable ally to inflict paralysis for Static Shock 3 to effect Zekrom’s sync move. Bolt Strike picks up +5 accuracy only to reach other tiles since Ideals Will Prevail will increase Zekrom’s accuracy to 100% even without this tile.

If pairing Zekrom with slow allies, grabbing both of Bolt Strike’s Move Gauge Refresh tiles is a good idea to keep you from waiting for the move gauge to slowly recharge so you can use one move on one sync pair.
If you have two high-Speed allies and they can help Zekrom reach max Speed or recharge the move gauge quickly, you can pick up an additional +3 power to Bolt Strike and +25 power to Bridging Bolt Strike. At sync level 5, Zekrom’s sync move then has a 450 base power. Add on Static Shock 3 and Critical Strike 2, plus an ally that can create an Electric Terrain, and foes will fall quickly to the sync pair.
