Pokémon Masters EX: Best Kiawe & Marowak Sync Grid Builds

Kiawe & Marowak dance their way into the fray as a potion-and-debuff supporting sync pair. Physical Strikers without the ability to raise their Attack, Speed, or critical-hit rate will enjoy being on a team with them. Even those that can buff themselves, like Bea & Sirfetch’d, will benefit by getting to dealing damage earlier. Iris & Hydreigon in particular will want to pair up because of their passive skill Power Loving. Best suited as a secondary support, Marowak needs another ally to raise his defenses.

The best Kiawe and Marowak sync grid builds are, Sync Level 2, Heal Focused, and Debuff.

Universal Upgrades

HP +30

Attack +10

Defense +5

Sp. Def +15

Speed +5

Potion MP Refresh 2

Dancing Fever! MP Refresh 3

Master Healer 1

Universal Recommended Lucky Skill:

Vigilance, Defense Crush 2

Marowak has several tiles that are universal among the builds to improve his supporting moves. Kiawe’s Dancing Fever! gains an MP Refresh 3 tile to give him a 40% chance of returning one use to the Trainer move whenever it is used. This is helpful to raise the sync team’s critical-hit rate to max at +3 stages, which causes every attack to be a critical hit. Potion MP Refresh 2 grants a 30% chance to recover one use each time it is used. On top of that, Master Healer 1 will restore 10% more health when using a potion.

Depending on your needs, either Vigilance or Defense Crush 2 would be best for your lucky skill. Vigilance will allow Marowak to survive one attack that would cause it to be knocked out if he began the battle at full health. Defense Crush 2 will grant Marowak a 30% chance to lower the target’s Defense by -1 on a successful attack.

Sync Grid Builds

Sync Level 2

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Defense +10

Sp. Def +5

Speed +5

Shadow Bone Move Gauge Refresh 3

Master Healer 1

At sync level 2, Marowak has access to much of his healing potential, but misses out on the big abilities. Shadow Bone picks up a Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile to have a 40% chance to return one bar to the move gauge after a successful attack.

Once you have used or run out of Dancing Fever! Marowak’s main purpose is to use Potion when needed and attack with Shadow Bone when not. Shadow Bone will keep tempo on the sync move countdown, but using as few move gauge bars as possible lets stronger sync pairs use their strongest attacks. You also have access to a second Master Healer 1 tile which will stack with the first for Potion to heal 20% extra HP.

Heal Focused Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Potion MP Refresh 2

Focus Group 2

Master Healer 1

Sometimes your team may need to lower the opponent’s Defense as much as possible for other sync pairs to become more powerful. Shadow Bone has a 20% chance to lower Defense by -1 stage, but On a Roll 4 causes each attack to have five separate chances to lower Defense.

Picking up Focus Group 2 will give Marowak a 30% chance to raise all ally critical-hit rates by +1 each time he has a successful attack. This means you don’t need to use Dancing Fever! for the three turns before the sync move countdown to reach max critical-hit rate for your primary damage dealer.

For later in the battle, the build picks up an additional copy of Master Healer 1 and Potion MP Refresh 2. Both copies of Master Healer 1 will stack and Potions will heal an extra 20% HP. The second copy of Potion MP Refresh 2 means you have two 30% chances to be able to use another Potion. In rare chances, both will activate to give you two more Potions.

Debuff Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Defense +10

Sp. Def +5

Speed +5

Shadow Bone Move Gauge Refresh 3

Unfortuitous

Because of Marowak’s passive skill On a Roll 4, being debuff focused can greatly aid your team. More energy is devoted to using Shadow Bone instead of healing. Its Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile grants a 40% chance to return one bar to the move gauge.

The skill Unfortuitous 4 gives Marowak a 50% chance of lowering the target’s Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, Speed, accuracy or evasion at random by -1 stage on a successful attack. With On a Roll 4, this means Shadow Bone’s natural debuff to Defense, as well as Unfortuitous 4’s debuff each have five chances to activate on one attack. While you can’t control what Unfortuitous 4 chooses, it can very quickly knock down the opponent’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
