Pokémon Masters EX: Best Fantina & Mismagius Sync Grid Builds

Fantina & Mismagius gain a sync grid that doesn’t transform their playstyle, but just makes them better and more consistent at it. You can lean into three different ways with their builds: more buff, more debuff, or more damage.

The best sync grid build for Fantina & Mismagius would be to go for Dance with Me! MP Refresh and Critical Strike.

Sync Grid Builds

Wind at Your Back (3/5) bulks up Mismagius with Ominous Wind as the battle wears on and the foes wear down. Rollin’ Rollin’ (3/5) leaves opponents crushed and special defenses weak for your allies to capitalize on. Busting Out of the Gates (3/5) is a move gauge-hogging build that goes for high damage at the beginning of the fight.

Both Wind at Your Back and Rollin’ Rollin’ feature sync level 2 builds that are significantly weakened by locked tiles, but still viable.

Universal Upgrades

  • HP +10
  • Defense +5
  • Sp. Atk +15
  • Sp. Def +5
  • Speed +5
  • Dance with Me! MP Refresh 2
  • Critical Strike 2

Universal Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Critical Strike 2

Every build is going to want to pick up Dance with Me! MP Refresh 2 for Mismagius to be able to reach max critical-hit rate with one successful refresh. At max, it makes every one of her attacks a critical hit. This means that both the Critical Strike 2 tile and the recommended lucky skill Critical Strike 2.

Wind at Your Back Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Sp. Def +5
  • Speed +5
  • Ominous Wind Power +8
  • Ominous Wind Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Power Flux 5
  • Swag Bag 1
  • Swag Bag 1

Sync Level 2:
– Critical Strike 2
– Power Flux 5
– Swag Bag 1
+ Defense +10
+ Ominous Wind Power +12
+ Ominous Wind Move Gauge Refresh 3
+ Shadow Ball Power +3

The build is fairly straightforward by setting up with Dance with Me! and X Sp. Atk followed by continual Ominous Wind.

Because Power Flux 5 increases the power of Mismagius’s moves the fuller the move gauge is, Ominous Wind Move Gauge Refresh 3 and high Speed will be key to keeping the bar topped off.

With this build, Mismagius is best suited for longer fights to allow Ominous Wind to trigger its special ability. It has a very small chance of raising her Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed, but picking up two tiles of Swag Bag 1 will give her three chances for it to activate. This will also counteract the diminishing returns of Bulk Buster 4 as an opponent’s HP wears down.

At sync level 2, the build loses a lot of its best tiles, so the aim is to compensate with more power and another refresh.

Rollin’ Rollin’ Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Ominous Wind Power +4
  • Shadow Ball Power +9
  • Shadow Ball Move Gauge Refresh 2
  • Shadow Ball Move Gauge Refresh 2
  • On a Roll 1
  • On a Roll 1

Sync Level 2:
– Ominous Wind Power +4
– Shadow Ball Move Gauge Refresh 2
– Critical Strike 2
– On a Roll 1
+ Defense +15
+ Sp. Atk +20
+ Sp. Def +20
+ Shadow Ball Power +6

Debuffing the opponent with Shadow Ball allows other Strikers to capitalize on the opponent’s weakness and the aim is to do it quickly and cheaply.

Shadow Ball is able to gain +9 power and picks up both Move Gauge Refresh 2 tiles to restore bars after using this expensive attack. It costs three bars of the move gauge and could potentially refund up to two. Attacking opponents quickly will be key so Fantina & Mismagius would benefit from any Speed-boosting sync pair partners.

Shadow Ball has a small chance to lower the opponent’s Sp. Def with each successful attack so picking up both On a Roll 1 tiles will triple the chances. With perfect luck, an opponent could reach -6 Sp. Def in two attacks.

At sync level 2, the build loses out on the second copy of On a Roll 1 and Shadow Ball’s refresh, plus Critical Strike 2. There is little else relevant to take on the grid beyond two +3 power tiles and boosts to Sp. Atk and Sp. Def.

Busting Out of the Gates Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Sp. Def +20
  • Speed +20
  • Ominous Wind Power +4
  • Shadow Ball Power +3
  • Shadow Ball Move Gauge Refresh 2
  • Soulful Dancer Shadow Ball Power +25
  • Power Flux 5

Sync Level 2:
Not recommended

When you’re looking for the highest output of damage, using Mismagius as the sole attacker with this build is the best way to go. Other sync pairs should focus their moves on buffing Mismagius and not using the move gauge.

Shadow Ball gains a meager +3 power and one Move Gauge Refresh 2 because it reaches across the sync grid for both Critical Strike 2 and Power Flux 5. Power Flux 5 boosts a move’s power depending on how full the move gauge is when the attack is chosen. With a 3-bar cost and only one refresh, there will be little chance for other sync pairs to attack and the bar to refill fully.

On the way, the build picks up +20 Sp. Def and +20 Speed. It also grabs Soulful Dancer Shadow Ball Power +25 since chances are Mismagius will also be your sync move user. With Bulk Buster 4, she is best used at the beginning of the fight before opponents can take her down due to her weak defenses.
