Pokémon Masters EX: Best Archie & Kyogre Sync Grid Builds

Archie & Kyogre emerge to flood the battlefield and buffet opponents with powerful attacks. Kyogre isn’t just about damage, but its various passive skills make it a great supporter on Rain teams and likely to see play elsewhere as well thanks to Hoenn Spirit. There’s lots of powerful Water-type sync pairs competing for the Striker slot, but Kyogre can be your primary damage dealer or support your Striker. May & Swampert are likely to be best friends with Archie & Kyogre due to their synergy. Synga Suit Blue & Blastoise can round out the team to take the damage and speed up the move gauge. Zinnia & Rayquaza are always looking for sync pairs that change the weather.

The best Archie and Kyogre sync grid builds are Sync Level 2, Thunder, Origin Pulse, Sync Nuke (Super Rain & MGR variations)

Origin Pulse Power +10

Origin Pulse Move Gauge Refresh 3

Thunder Power +3

Thunder Move Gauge Refresh 3

Thunder Paralysis Synergy 1

When limited to sync level 2, Kyogre misses out on the passive skills that really boost damage. But, at this level, you are able to support both Origin Pulse and Thunder without having to switch between builds.

Origin Pulse gains +10 power and Move Gauge Refresh 3. Thunder gains only +3 power and a Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile. Thunder also gets Paralysis Synergy 1, which increases the move’s power by 10% against any paralyzed opponents.

Thunder Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Speed +5

Origin Pulse Power +2

Thunder Power +3

Thunder Move Gauge Refresh 3

Thunder Move Gauge Refresh 3

Thunder Paralysis Synergy 1

Thunder Raging Rain 5

Rainy Propulsion 1

Super Rain 4

Thunder gains a meager +3 power but it also gains two Move Gauge Refresh 3 tiles. Each tile has a 40% chance of activating whenever Thunder successfully hits an opponent. Each will return one bar to the move gauge meaning there is a small chance that two bars will be returned. With Kyogre needing Speed and move gauge support, these Refresh tiles can greatly reduce reliance on allies.

Thunder will deal 10% more damage against paralyzed opponents by taking Paralysis Synergy 1. Raging Rain 5 boosts the move’s power by 50% when the weather is rainy. Kyogre causes it to rain when it enters the battlefield and greatly extends the duration of rain so you shouldn’t have too much trouble.

Super Rain 4 and Rainy Propulsion 1 are only active during rainy weather so if you expect the battle to drag out, bring along an ally that can make it rain once again. Super Rain 4 will have a 50% chance of giving Kyogre a power boost to its next super effective attack. Rainy Propulsion 1 adds a 20% chance to reduce the sync move gauge by -1 with each successful attack.

Origin Pulse Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Defense +5

Sp. Def +5

Speed +10

Origin Pulse Power +8

Origin Pulse Move Gauge Refresh 3

Healthy Power-Up 1

Rainy Propulsion 1

Super Rain 4

With so many sync pairs competing for the sync move slot, Kyogre can slide into a more supportive role with its passive skills, but still deal impressive damage. Focusing all in on Origin Pulse gives +8 power and the Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile. Kyogre would pair well with a Syncer that uses its beginning turns setting up and doesn’t compete for move gauge use since Origin Pulse uses four bars on the move gauge.

Kyogre needs a sync pair to hide behind due to its lower defenses that may be further lowered by using Archie’s Trainer move Open the Oceans! Additionally, Healthy Power-Up 1 gives a 10% increase to damage if Kyogre’s HP is full.

The next two skills require the weather to be rainy. The build grabs Rainy Propulsion 1 for a 20% chance of reducing the sync move count by -1 for your Syncer. Super Rain 4 will have a 50% chance of earning a damage boost to Kyogre’s next super effective attack.

Sync Nuke Build (Sync Level 3/5) (Super Rain / MGR variations)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738/750

Total Energy Used: 59/60

Unique Upgrades:

HP +20

Sp. Def +5

Origin Pulse Power +2

Thunder Power +3

Aqua Planet Origin Pulse Power +50

Shower Power 3

Shower Sync

Super Rain Variation:

Super Rain 4

MGR Variation:

Origin Pulse Power +2

Origin Pulse Move Gauge Refresh 3

Using Kyogre as your Syncer can leave opponents weak to Water-type utterly drenched. Both variations pick up +50 power to Aqua Planet Origin Pulse. Shower Power 3 increases sync move damage in rainy weather and Shower Sync will make the weather rainy the first time Kyogre uses its sync move. With Downpour and Flood Alert 5, you may not need another sync pair to make it rain during the battle.

The Super Rain variation is better suited for when you have a team put together that will be fast enough for Origin Pulse to refill or if you plan on using Thunder for attacking moves. In rainy weather, Super Rain 4 will grant Kyogre a 50% chance to increase damage of its next super effective attack. You could use it on Origin Pulse or switch to Thunder to save it for Kyogre’s sync move.
If the move gauge is more important than pure damage, the MGR variation can help with Origin Pulse gaining a Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile. Keeping up the tempo is important to beating the opponent to sync moves.
