Fate/Grand Order can feature a daunting amount of story content to work through for new players, and rerolling at the outset can save headaches when trying to progress through all of it. Be warned, it can take quite a long time to reroll on Grand Order, and the game is famous among mobile games for having extremely solid low-rarity characters, so you should know what you’re aiming for.
Archer EMIYA and Heracles are the best characters to reroll for. Almost any SSR is worth keeping but you cannot get one from the tutorial roll.
How do you reroll in Grand Order?
Unfortunately, Grand Order doesn’t feature a clean and quick reroll method. Each time you complete your rolls, you’ll need to delete the app’s data on Android, or completely reinstall it on iOS. Each set of rolls is thankfully fairly simple, launch the game, and complete the tutorial up to the forced ten-roll. From there, completing the next quest and collecting your starting Saint Quartz gift will provide you a single non-tutorial roll. This roll gives a very small chance for an SSR. Once you’re satisfied with your start, bind your account and the process is complete.
Should I reroll for an SSR?
Grand Order’s required roll cannot result in an SSR servant (the saint quartz gift after can), so it is a large time investment to give each attempt a good shot at getting one. If an event is currently giving extra starting summons, consider rerolling for an SSR. If not, remember that the best time to start the game is always now. You’re leaving free summons on the table if you wait and the tutorial characters often make better starters than an SSR you can’t ascend anyway.
If you choose to target an SSR, the most notable option is Zhuge Liang (El-Melloi II). Outside of Scheherezade and Osakabehime, you should keep any account that rolls an unlimited SSR.
S-Rank Breakdown
Berserker Heracles – The uncontested king of starter characters. Heracles features almost everything you could want in a start; consistency, high damage, and huge survivability. Bravery provides for his sizable damage output and offers resistance to some annoying debuffs at the same time. The rest of his skills are devoted to survivability, which is a huge boon for a Berserker. Eye of the Mind offers Evasion for emergency damage immunity, while Battle Continuation lets Heracles keep going after a hit that should kill him.
However, no character is perfect. Heracles has a single-target Noble Phantasm, which is extremely good when facing bosses but poor for farming the materials and EXP you need. He also scales poorly when compared with the other tutorial rolls. Heracles sees little use in late game content without grinding out his Bond 10 Craft Essence. You’ll likely retire him in favor of other characters more quickly because of this.
Archer EMIYA – A potent starter, and notable for having the best scaling among the tutorial rolls. Don’t get it twisted though, EMIYA absolutely packs a punch even if you don’t yet have access to his Rank-Up Quests and Interludes. He’s the quintessential Archer, with a switch-hitting gameplan of powerful single-target crits backed up by AoE Noble Phantasm crowd control.
EMIYA asks you to play a little smarter than some of the other options available, but the performance is worth it. Once you’ve unlocked all of his buffs, you’ll have plenty of use for him well into the late-game.
A-Rank Breakdown
Lancer Elizabeth Bathory – Liz comes in alongside Martha as a supportive option. However, she has large damage boosts for the entire party in Charisma and Torture Techniques. This is particularly uncommon among the tutorial rolls, and far more early team compositions can find a place for her thanks to it. Even when you find yourself staring down Sabers that are hard for her to fight, she can still provide a serious jolt to your friend unit or budget Archers like David and Arash. She can even take a beating in those nodes thanks to sharing Heracles’ Battle Continuation. In the late-game, she has buffs that keep her supporting teams with some of the highest party-wide Attack-Ups available.
Berserker Tamamo Cat – Cat, like Heracles before her, is a Berserker and very useful for putting out high damage no matter the target. Her Monstrous Strength skill makes sure of that. Unfortunately, she lacks his rock-solid defensive game and will die if you don’t properly babysit her. She does have an AoE Noble Phantasm, which is uncommon for Berserkers and makes her a great farmer. Again, unfortunately, it stuns her after use, seriously constraining how useful it is without external support. Be ready to win fast and lose just as fast if you stick with Cat.

B-Rank Breakdown
Rider St. Martha – Martha is a pretty lukewarm starter, but she is an absolute superstar in late-game thanks to her skills Miracle clearing friendly debuffs and Vow of the Saintess removing enemy buffs in one character. It can be worth starting with her despite the rougher early game because of this; you will be glad to have her when you start facing the tougher enemies while catching up on story chapters.
She deserves an honorable mention when rolled alongside Tamamo Cat. While any set of two B+ SRs should probably be kept, Martha can heal Tamamo’s self-stun and provide some much needed staying power. Using the two together is like night and day compared to having them apart.
Saber Chevalier d’Eon – The better Saber option features a purely defensive kit and the only tutorial Noble Phantasm that can’t kill an enemy. D’Eon rounds out the very bottom of characters that you should consider keeping if you want to reroll.
You’re going to be fairly reliant on friend units for speed, but it isn’t all bad. D’Eon’s Looks of Loveliness is one of only two skills in the entire game that taunts for multiple turns. Better yet, Eye of the Mind allows him to become immune to damage for one of those turns and leaves a lingering defense buff for the rest. His Noble Phantasm even reduces enemy attack and has a chance to charm. Taken together, d’Eon will keep whatever other servants you brought along alive far beyond their shelf life. Once you get access to notable friend units he’ll ease boss walls you’ll face that can threaten those maxed out helpers. Unfortunately, he’s even worse than Heracles when it comes to farming up materials and EXP to get him leveled enough to do this.
C-Rank Breakdown
These characters probably shouldn’t be kept if you’re looking to reroll. Carmilla, an anti-female niche Assassin, and Marie Antoinette, among the bulkiest servants in the game, are marginal. They should probably weigh in if you’ve rolled them in addition to a higher-ranked character you’re not thrilled about, but otherwise, be left aside. Siegfried and Stheno, however, are so niche that you shouldn’t humor them at all. Stheno in particular is one of very few truly bad characters in Grand Order.
You don’t need to reroll to have a viable GO account, though. It’s important to remember that with investment and planning, several of the Friend Point characters are capable of clearing extremely difficult content. This tier list helps you aim for the smoothest and easiest time catching up and transitioning to current content.
