Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX: What Are Rare Qualities?

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon there used to be something called Gummis which would increase your IQ and Pokémon would have IQ Skills. IQ Skills help you throughout the dungeon—skills like Self-Curer (recovers from status effects faster), Trap Avoider (Pokémon avoids visible traps), and Nonsleeper (Pokémon resists sleep moves and traps). These Gummis would also raise your stats depending on the color of the Gummi. Mystery Dungeon DX has gotten rid of the IQ skills and has now replaced them with Rare Qualities.

Rare Qualities are additional abilities your Pokémon gains based on the Gummi and Pokémon. They are similar to IQ Skills as they are passive skills that will help you in a dungeon. A list of Rare Qualities is below!

If any Pokémon on your squad has a Rare Quality then the effect will be granted for your entire team. For example if your Pikachu has XP Boost, then your partner and other Pokémon you bring will also benefit from that XP Boost. Unlikely to be stackable, but haven’t been confirmed yet.

*Note, these passive abilities only work inside a dungeon. So, Bargain for example only applies to dungeon shops.

How to get Rare Qualities

Rare Qualities can be obtained from Rainbow Gummi and DX Gummi. There is also a chance of befriending a Pokémon with a Rare Quality if you use a Rare Quality Orb. This will only last on the floor you used it on.

Rainbow Gummi’s raises one if your stats permanently and sometimes will unlock a Rare Quality. Eat them at the rescue camp.

DX Gummi’s gives you a 100% chance of obtaining a Rare Quality and raises one of your stats permanently. Eat them at the rescue camp.

Best Rare Qualities

These are what I believe to be the best Rare Qualities in the game.

Friendly – this Rare Quality allows you to recruit more Pokémon that you face in a dungeon! I remember days where I spent hours on a dungeon map trying to befriend a Pokémon I really wanted. This will speed up the process greatly!

XP Boost – Leveling up faster is always a good thing because with levels you get stronger and unlock more moves.

PP Pouch – One of the most frustrating things when running a dungeon is running out of PP for a move. This will cause you to retreat most of the time when you want to complete the entire dungeon. Also it’s super frustrating when you run out of the Super Effective move you need to help clear the Boss fights. So this will be a Rare Quality I will look to put on my team.

Small Stomach – Another frustrating thing about mystery dungeons is the Hunger factor. Having to carry so much food is super annoying when you’re trying to really explore the dungeon completely or trying to befriend other Pokémon. Having this Rare Quality will allow you to carry less food and you’ll have space in your bag for other nice items.
