Pokémon Masters: Is Olivia & Lycanroc a must-have Sync Pair?

The end-game of Pokémon Masters heavily relies on Strikers. That’s not to say that Tech or Support Pokémon are useless, but you’ll definitely need a strong Striker to hold your own in Co-op. Among the roster of Striker Sync Pairs is Olivia & Lycanroc. You may have noticed the abundance of this Sync Pair in Co-op. This is for a good reason!

Olivia & Lycanroc is definitely a must-have Sync Pair. There aren’t many other Striker Sync Pairs that can conquer end-game content like them. Oliva & Lycanroc can be used to beat the Main Story Co-op Missions and EX Challenges, making them indispensable.

Is it worth rerolling for Olivia?

Yes, it’s worth spending the time to reroll for Olivia. If you just started the game and are planning to reroll for decent 5★, I suggest trying your hand at getting Olivia. Of course you can beat the Main Story without Olivia, but the end-game will prove to be a difficult challenge without her.

Don’t plan on spending hours rerolling? Then, it’s best to roll for Olivia when her banner is up. A banner is basically a gacha game term, carried throughout gacha games, that attributes higher roll rate of a certain character.

With Olivia, for certain stages, it’s even possible to do Co-op solo. By solo I mean bringing in AI partners with you to win battles. To do this, just select Connect with Friends instead of Quick Connect and just start the battle and you’ll be given two AI companions. You’ll have to use the emotes effectively to control the AI, but often times this is desirable over unhelpful Co-op partners.

How to beat the Main Story with just Lycanroc

Okay, you’ll probably need one more Sync Pair other than Olivia & Lycanroc, like Rosa & Serperior to tank damage. Other than that, you can steamroll the Main Story in Single-Player easily. All you have to do is to buff up Lycanroc X Attack once or twice and a single Hard as Diamonds! (you likely only need one, unless you’re not feeling lucky) and then Stone Edge away. Use Serperior’s Time to Energize! to refresh the move gauge and nothing will stop you.

Keep in mind that Lycanroc is very squishy and weak to Grass-type. In general you shouldn’t be afraid if Serperior is on the field. Just watch out for those AOE Sync Moves. The Main Story missions have Pokémon that typically have weaker Sync moves than Co-op, so you should be fine as long as your Lycanroc is at a decent level.

How to use Lycanroc effectively in Co-op

Lycanroc can be used in three different EX Very Hard Challenges: EX Rosa, EX Erika, and EX Skyla. In fact, all the easiest and fastest methods of defeating these bosses include the use of Lycanroc. That just goes to show how powerful this Pokémon is.

At the start of every battle, it might be tempting to spam all your buffs and try to KO your opponents with Stone Edge, but DON’T do it! Make sure you understand the matchup, and if it’s worth using those precious few turns at the start.

Usually, you’ll want to buff once with Hard as Diamonds! and then contribute to the Unity Bonus as soon as possible and unleash all the while throwing out Stone Edge. Ultimately, fights with Lycanroc boil down to this formula. Spam Stone Edge!

Conclusion

If you happen to have a load of gems, then I suggest trying to pull for her one at a time instead of ten at a time, because the cost is the same per roll, and you can stop if you happen to get her on the first try. Maybe you’ll get lucky like me and only have to pull once during the banner event.
