Pokémon Masters: Is it Worth Rolling for Burgh & Leavanny?

This artist, Burgh, has come to Pasio with his Pokémon Leavanny, but is this muse and his Pokémon worthy of being on your team?

No, don’t bother spending your gems. Burgh & Leavanny may currently be the only Bug-type Special Striker, but their stats and moves are in no way special. They’ll find their niche in Sun teams, but only when you’ve unlocked their full Sync Grid.

Is it worth rolling for Burgh & Leavanny?

No, they have a very niche use but require unlimited sun and are fragile enough they might not be able to capitalize on the buffs and debuffs of their attacks.

Burgh & Leavanny have an interesting place as a Striker in a Sun-based team. Their passive ability Speeding Sun 2 speeds up the Move Gauge when the weather is sunny and they have several abilities on their Sync Grid that also depend on sunny weather.

Burgh & Leavanny absolutely need a source of repeatable sunny weather to help power their moves. Only Silver & Ho-oh, who need to use their Sync Move for sun, fit this bill currently. Leavanny’s Sync Move Insectible Struggle Bug is unimpressive.

The pair is able to reach +4 Sp. Attack using X Sp. Attack and Burgh’s Scurry Ahead! will max their Speed and add some Defense too. However, you could forego using both of these moves because Silver Wind has a small chance of raising a random stat with each attack. Swag Bag 1 makes this more likely, but what stat Silver Wind raises is entirely random.

Bug Buzz is the Sync Pair’s more powerful 3-bar move that has a small chance to lower an opponent’s Sp. Defense. Their Passive Ability On a Roll 1 helps make that more likely and their Sync Grid has two tiles to boost the chances further.

With their naturally high Speed, ability to max it out, and access to Charging Sun 5 on their grid, they’ll quickly refill the move gauge to keep up the damage. Their big weakness is being unable to raise their critical-hit rate without help and this heavily limits their effectiveness as a high-powered Striker.

By the time Silver Wind or Bug Buzz will have made a significant difference, it’s likely Burgh & Leavanny will have been knocked out because they do not have the bulk to last and can’t raise their evasiveness. They’ll go down quick to any Area-of-Effect attacks.

In all, this Sync Pair is focused on improving their stats, while lowering the opponents’ but they need too much going right in the battle to make them worth spending your gems and rolling on their banner.
