Pokémon Masters: How to Auto Very Hard EX Challenges

Now that the Sync Pair level cap has been raised (up to 120), it’s now much easier to beat EX Challenges by yourself, and even using auto battle! If you’ve avoided co-op before, now’s your chance to obtain 2★ gear to power up your Pokémon. The teams below will guarantee your victory.

To defeat these EX Challenges use the following lineups:

  • EX Barry: Cheren & Stoutland, Brendan & Sceptile, and Rosa (Holiday 2019) & Delibird
  • EX Erika: Hilda & Emboar, Player & Torchic, and Flint & Infernape
  • EX Marshal: Giovanni & Mewtwo, Will & Xatu, and any other.
  • EX Hau: Player & Torchic, Cynthia & Garchomp, and any other.
  • EX Clair: Player & Torchic, Clair & Kingdra, and Giovanni & Mewtwo

How do you enter an EX Challenge solo?

If you don’t know how to enter an EX Challenge alone, it’s actually really easy. Navigate to whichever EX Challenge you wish to attempt and press it. Then, instead of pressing “Quick Connect”, press “Connect with Friends”. Next, press “GO!” and then in the waiting room press “GO!” again, and then “Yes” to battle with NPCs.

How to beat EX Barry on Auto

Unfortunately, this isn’t a F2P (free-to-play) friendly EX Challenge.

The suggested lineup for this EX Challenge is Cheren & Stoutland, Brendan & Sceptile, and Rosa (Holiday 2019) & Delibird. Make sure your team is max level and has all their moves. Stoutland needs Crunch to easily get rid of the Bronzong and Apply Yourself! to start the battle strong. 2★ max level gear is recommended (Grass-type preferred but any will do).

Stoutland will use Full Heal in the case a sleep lands on your team. Often, Unity will activate sooner than the second Bronzong is gone and Sceptile will be switched in, but that’s okay. Sceptile will likely be downed, but Rosa can help finish the job.

It’s possible to replace Rosa’s holiday version for her Grass-type pairing with Serperior and still succeed (though I did lose once or twice with this). Some players have found success with replacing the third Sync Pair with a Striker.

How to beat EX Erika on Auto

It’s possible to beat this EX Challenge with a F2P team, though it’ll be semi-auto! We’ll begin with the non-F2P, though.

Bring Hilda & Emboar, Player & Torchic, and Flint & Infernape. Flint & Infernape rarely come out, but serve as a good finisher.

For F2P, it’ll be semi-auto. You have to use an emote to get the NPC to switch out Pokémon and then the rest is all good. Use Flannery & Torkoal, Flint & Infernape, and Player & Torchic. Once the battle begins just emote “Defend Together”.

More info will be here once these methods are fully tested.

How to beat EX Marshal on Auto

The best way to defeat EX Marshal is to use Giovanni & Mewtwo and Will & Xatu. The third Sync Pair could be anything since Mewtwo is so strong in this EX Challenge. Make sure your Sync Pairs are max level and that Mewtwo has all its moves (though I still win without having Shadow Ball). Without Will & Xatu, this can be a F2P-friendly team.

Mewtwo will start with Nowhere to Hide! and then proceed to demolish with its strong moves. Will & Xatu is here as a strong finisher. Once you get more and more Psychic-type gear, this EX Challenge will get easier and easier.

How to beat EX Hau on Auto

This is the latest EX Challenge as of this writing. EX Hau’s release coincided with the release of Cynthia & Garchomp, one of the best Sync Pairs for this battle. Use Player & Torchic, Cynthia & Garchomp, and any other Sync Pair.

Torchic will buff your allies, and then when Garchomp comes out, it’ll end the battle quickly.

An alternate team that works 100% of the time: Cheren & Stoutland, Hapu & Mudsdale, and Rosa & Serperior. Hapu & Mudsdale can be replaced with Giovanni & Mewtwo. For this, make sure Sync Pairs have all of their moves and are max level.

Stoutland will get rid of any debuffs quickly. Mudsdale will deal good damage. Serperior will finish off the battle by refreshing your teammates and tanking a bit.

How to beat EX Clair on Auto

This is another EX Challenge that is possible with a F2P team.

The ideal lineup is Player & Torchic, Clair & Kingdra, and Giovanni & Mewtwo. Make sure these Sync Pairs are at max level. Torchic needs only Blazing Hope! as an extra move. Mewtwo doesn’t need Shadow Ball either.

An alternate, non-F2P team is Liza & Lunatone, Drake & Salamence, and Will & Xatu. With this team you can exchange Will & Xatu with any Pokémon that has Endure. This lineup  is close to 100%, but doesn’t seem to be as good as the team in the paragraph above.

On auto, the team will begin with buffs. Kingdra will get knocked out from the enemy Sync Move, but not after using its own and doing a bit of damage. Mewtwo will clean up in the end.

You might ask, what’s the point of doing EX Challenges solo? Some people simply prefer to play this game using auto battle for various reasons. Typically, it’s not good manners to use auto battle during these difficult EX Challenge when playing with a party. Creating NPC auto teams becomes just another aspect of Pokémon Masters. It might be fun to discover your own strategies!
