Pokémon Masters EX: Best Wallace Sync Grid Builds

Wallace & Milotic are a Tech sync pair whose normal kit focuses more on offensive abilities, but their grid places them more firmly into a support role. What they lack in defenses is made up in health and regeneration abilities. There is some variation in what kind of build you will make for them, but they don’t stand out as a pair that seems particularly unique or essential.

The best sync grid build for Wallace & Milotic would be to go for Whirlpool Accuracy, First Aid, and Healthy Healing.

Sync Grid Builds

Captivation (3/5) is a mix build focused around Whirlpool’s trapping as well as the standard preservation abilities of regeneration and first aid. Deception (3/5) begins with Whirlpool to trap opponents, but switches to Brine to take advantage of its increased damage in the later part of the fight. Eternal Siren (3/5) asks Milotic not to deal damage, but to put all of her focus on withstanding all attacks and shrug them off by healing back up.

Both Captivation and Deception include sync level 2 alternatives that are able to pick up some extra abilities since two skills are locked away. It diminishes some of Milotic’s defensive and offensive power, but neither are key to the sync pair’s usefulness.

Universal Upgrades

  • HP +20
  • Defense +10
  • Sp. Atk +10
  • Sp. Def +10
  • Speed +5
  • Whirlpool Accuracy +10
  • First Aid 4
  • Healthy Healing

Universal Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Stoic 2, Vigilance

Wallace & Milotic pick up a couple of universal tiles because they greatly improve the pair’s survivability. If Milotic is at full HP when she enters the battle, Healthy Healing will make her gradually heal herself with each attack. She also picks up First Aid 4, which will heal 40% of her max HP when she is low on health. Many of her skills benefit from the target being trapped, so Whirlpool Accuracy +10 appears in every build to not lose out on a turn.

Milotic has poor defenses and no way to raise them herself beyond an expensive sync tile, so Stoic 2 is a good lucky skill to help shore up her weak spot. If your team includes a Defense buffer, such as Skyla & Swanna, Vigilance is a better pickup to nullify critical hits bypassing raised defenses.

Captivation Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738
Total Energy Used: 59
Unique Upgrades:

  • HP +30
  • Defense +5
  • Whirlpool Power +16
  • Whirlpool Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Pokey Trap 1

2/5 Variation:
– First Aid 4
– Pokey Trap 1
+ Sp. Atk +5
+ Brine Power +8
+ Stationary Target 3

As a defensive tank, Wallace & Milotic’s main purpose is to soak up damage, but they also do well to drain enemies of HP with their pesky Whirlpool attack, which will cause the trapped condition on the target.

Beyond the universal skills, the build picks up a few additional upgrades, mainly improving Whirlpool with +16 power and Move Gauge Refresh 3. Pokey Trap 1 increases the trapped damage on opponents as long as Milotic is on the field.

The 2/5 variation loses out on both offensive and defensive power, but is able to make up for it by taking Stationary Target 3, which will increase move damage against trapped opponents. Still a straightforward build great for helping count down til the sync move of your main striker.

Deception Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738
Total Energy Used: 59
Unique Upgrades:

  • Sp. Atk +5
  • Brine Power +4
  • Brine Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Whirlpool Power +4
  • Pokey Trap 1
  • Stationary Target 3

2/5 Variation:
– First Aid 4
– Pokey Trap 1
+ Brine Power +8
+ Whirlpool Power +4
+ Whirlpool Move Gauge Refresh 3
+ Grand Entry 1

This build looks to keep most of Milotic’s healing capabilities but also be of use to strike an opponent when they’re down.

Whirlpool is used as the first attack in order to cause the trapped condition on the target. Brine Move Gauge Refresh 3 is picked up instead of Whirlpool since you’ll be switching to Brine against this opponent after they are trapped. Both Whirlpool and Brine have the same base power, but Brine’s power is doubled against opponents with less than half their health.

Pokey Trap 1 increases how much damage the trapped condition inflicts while Stationary Target 3 will increase the damage trapped opponents take from any of Milotic’s attacking moves.

The sync level 2 variation loses out on two important tiles, but picks up the remaining Brine power tiles and Whirlpool Move Gauge Refresh 3. Grand Entry 1 will raise Milotic’s Sp. Atk by one level when she enters the battle.

Eternal Siren Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • HP +10
  • Sp. Atk +5
  • Brine Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Mirror Coat Power +40
  • Whirlpool Power +4
  • Whirlpool Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Revenge Boost 4

2/5 Variation:
Not recommended

Wallace & Milotic have several ways to heal themselves from passive skills, tiles on their sync grid, and even their sync move all can heal. Their attacks are meant more to reduce sync move countdown than to deal any significant damage.

Both Brine Move Gauge Refresh 3 and Whirlpool Move Gauge Refresh 3 will reduce the sync pair’s move costs to allow Strikers to use their more powerful moves. While this build picks up +40 power on Mirror Coat, it is merely on the way to Revenge Boost 4, which may activate and charge the move gauge bar by one whenever Milotic is hit by an attack move.

Along with Healthy Healing and First Aid 4, the sync pair becomes incredibly difficult to take down, especially if paired with another Support pair with defenses support and Potions.
