Pokémon Masters EX: Best Lyra Sync Grid Builds

Finally, the Johto trio earn their sync grids and Lyra & Meganium greatly benefit from theirs! Their offensive capabilities are still poor and their defenses don’t take an amazing turn, but they become a great pair to support allies through buffs and repeatable sun. You’ll want to use them as a secondary Support rather than primary tank, but they will easily replace Silver & Ho-oh in sun teams for endless sun.

The best sync grid build for Lyra & Meganium would be to go for Sunny Side Up! MP Refresh and build tanky, choosing to rely on sunny weather or not.

Sync Grid Builds

Pump Up Those Stats (3/5) is a build that doesn’t rely on sun and aims to do assist allies as much as possible and also restore Meganium’s impressive HP. Sun Flower Power (3/5) orients the duo as the syncing pair for sun teams for endless sun and support with Solarize and all MP Refreshes. Leaf Tornado (3/5) focuses on Meganium’s sync move power by boosting stats and increasing damage in the sun.

Wondering where the sync level 2 grids are? Lyra & Meganium are so heavily dependent on tiles at the edge of their grid that no build has a good equivalent. It’s recommended to grab the Refresh tiles for each of their moves, with Energy Ball being the least important. Use your Orbs elsewhere until sync level 3.

Universal Upgrades

  • HP +20
  • Defense +5
  • Sp. Atk +15
  • Sp. Def +5
  • Speed +5
  • Sunny Side Up! MP Refresh 3

Universal Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Vigilance, Stoic 2

Sunny Side Up! MP Refresh 3 is a very important tile and doubly so for any build that runs Solarize or uses another sync pair to create sunny weather. Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed are raised +1 normally and +2 in sunny weather. Lyra has the chance to max out three important stats for all sync pairs, which makes the tile a must.
Vigilance is always good for any more defensive pair to protect against critical hits bypassing any raised defenses. If not picking up Team Toughen Up or using another ally to boost Meganium’s defenses, Stoic 2 has a chance to raise Meganium’s Defense by +1 each time she attacks.

No-Sun Tank Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Defense +10
  • Sp. Atk +10
  • Sp. Def +10
  • Energy Ball Power +5
  • Dire Hit All Critical Squad 1
  • Sunny Side Up! Hit and Heal 9
  • Revenge Boost 3
  • Team Toughen Up 4

Lyra & Meganium have great capabilities for helping allies by raising everyone’s stats to make up for their lack of defensive bulk. In a pinch, it makes Meganium’s sync move more powerful.

Rather than go for the MP Refresh for Dire Hit All, the build picks up Dire Hit All Critical Squad 1, which effectively makes it raise critical-hit rate by +2 each use. Since it can only reach +3, the consistency is better as you are guaranteed to reach +3  with Critical Squad 1.

Sunny Side Up! Hit and Heal 9 will restore a little bit of Meganium’s health each time it attacks. It will last longer and let you use the Potions on the sync pair soaking up the damage. Team Toughen Up 4 and Revenge Boost 3 function in a similar role. Whenever Meganium is hit by an attack, she has a chance to raise her Defense by one or restore one bar on the move gauge, respectively.

In all, Lyra & Meganium can potentially max out Attack, Sp. Atk, Speed, Defense, critical-hit rate, plus gain move gauge bars, and reduce Special damage.

Sun Tank Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738
Total Energy Used: 59
Unique Upgrades:

  • Defense +15
  • Speed +5
  • Energy Ball Power +5
  • Dire Hit All MP Refresh 3
  • Light Screen MP Refresh 3
  • Healing Sun 1
  • Solarize
  • Speeding Sun 2

Lyra & Meganium become the second sync pair to be able to make the weather sunny with their sync move and will find themselves on more teams for this ability. Several other tiles only activate when the weather is sunny.

Solarize will turn Meganium’s sync move into a repeatable Sunny Day. She’ll do great with teams that don’t necessarily need to use their sync move to deal damage or become effective.

When in sun, Healing Sun 1 will restore a little bit of Meganium’s HP whenever she uses Energy Ball and Speeding Sun 2 will speed up the move gauge charge speed. Meganium’s damage output isn’t stellar, so Energy Ball is mainly used to count down til sync move.

The remainder of the energy goes to picking up Dire Hit All MP Refresh 3 and Light Screen MP Refresh 3 for obvious reasons.

Tanking Turtle Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Defense +10
  • Speed +5
  • Energy Ball Power +15
  • Dire Hit All MP Refresh 3
  • Heart of Gold Leaf Storm Power +25
  • Solar Flare 5
  • Solarize
  • Team Toughen Up 4

Trying something different and want to use the pair offensively? Lyra and Meganium cannot bring large amounts of damage with Energy Ball, their only attack, but their sync move becomes more powerful the more their stats are raised.

The build is only able to pick up one tile for +25 Heart of Gold Leaf Storm but it does get Solar Flare 5 which powers up their sync move when the weather is sunny. Perhaps use another sync pair to generate sun for Meganium’s first sync move, but after that, she is self sustaining with Solarize, which will make the battlefield sunny after using her sync move.

Dire Hit All MP Refresh 3 creates the chance that you may be able to max out the entire team’s critical-hit rate. Finally, the build picks up Team Toughen Up 4 which has a chance of raising the Defense of all allies when Meganium is hit with an attack move.

They’ll need allies capable of dealing damage with their attacks–hopefully Strikers that also benefit from sunny weather.  They could also drop Team Toughen Up for Light Screen MP Refresh 3 if another sync pair will raise the team’s defenses. She’s built for Support, but if you want to use Meganium offensively, making her sync move as powerful as possible is the goal.
