Pokémon Masters EX: Best Iris & Hydreigon Sync Grid Builds

Iris & Hydreigon enter in champion regalia to weaken opponent offenses and deal increasing amounts of damage against them. The sync pair can be kitted out in their proper Tech role or have a team built around them when functioning as the party’s Striker. They require a lot of investment in sync levels and in team composition when Hydreigon’s the main damage dealer.

It’s best to focus on one of her three attacks or sync moves, so you may be changing it out quite often based on the opponents. Due to this, Hydreigon will struggle in longer battles against multiple opponents unless you sacrifice some of her power.

The best sync grid builds for Iris and Hydreigon are, Breaking Swipe, Snarl, Dragon Rush, and Sync Nuke.

Universal Upgrades

HP +10

Attack +5

Defense +5

Sp. Atk +5

Sp. Def +5

Speed +5

Three Heads! MP Refresh 2

Universal Recommended Lucky Skill:

Defense Crush 2, Critical Strike 2

Because each build focuses on a different move, only Three Heads! MP Refresh 2 is shared between all. You can’t go wrong with Critical Strike 2 for your lucky skill if you have an ally raising Hydreigon’s critical-hit rate to max. However, Defense Crush 2, especially with Breaking Swipe, can leave the entire opponent side vulnerable to physical attacks very quickly thanks to passive skill Double Drop.

If you only have Sync Level 2, each build loses out on what makes it powerful. You could pick up the MP Refresh 2 for Three Heads! and each of the Move Gauge Refresh 3 tiles for all three attacking moves and still have energy left over to increase the power of your preferred attack.

Sync Grid Builds

Breaking Swipe Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

Attack +5

Breaking Swipe Power +20

Breaking Swipe Move Gauge Refresh 3

Breaking Swipe Critical Strike 1

Triple Threat Dragon Rush Power +25

Pecking Order

Breaking Swipe will target all opponents and each successful attack will lower the Pokémon’s Attack two stages thanks to passive skill Double Drop. It gains +20 power and a Move Gauge Refresh 3 to quickly weaken physical opponents. Breaking Swipe’s Critical Strike 1 will boost the damage of any critical hit. Three Heads! increases Hydreigon’s critical-hit rate by +1, but an MP Refresh or an ally can help raise it further.

Triple Threat Dragon Rush gains +25 power but Pecking Order will increase the amount of damage dealt based on how much the opponent’s Attack is lowered.

Snarl Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

HP +10

Sp. Def +5

Speed +5

Snarl Power +12

Snarl Move Gauge Refresh 3

Snarl Superduper Effective 2

Three Heads! All Ramped Up 1

Devastation

Snarl is a Dark-type move that will lower all opponent Sp. Atk stats by -2 with each successful hit thanks to passive skill Double Drop. It gains +12 power and a Move Gauge Refresh 3, but against opponents weak to Dark-type attacks, Superduper Effective 2 will increase the amount of damage dealt by 20%.

Since Three Heads! only raises Hydreigon’s Attack, grabbing All Ramped Up 1 will raise Sp. Atk of all allies by +1 each time the move is used. She’ll definitely want an ally to max it out but you’ll also need some critical hit support to hit max. Critical Strike 2 is the better lucky skill with this build since Defense drops won’t help Snarl deal more damage.

Devastation will boost the power of Triple Threat Dragon Rush the more the target’s Sp. Atk has been lowered. Using Snarl for Hydreigon’s first three moves will result in an opponent with -6 Sp. Atk before using her sync move the first time.

Dragon Rush Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

HP +20

Attack +5

Speed +5

Breaking Swipe Power +4

Breaking Swipe Move Gauge Refresh 3

Dragon Rush Power +9

Dragon Rush Move Gauge Refresh 3

Triple Threat Dragon Rush Power +25

Pecking Order

Dragon Rush is Hydreigon’s most powerful attack and she doesn’t have to worry about the move’s poor accuracy because of passive skill Piercing Gaze. This build does very little extra but gives Breaking Swipe and Dragon Rush an increase in power, +4 and +9 respectively, and each their Move Gauge Refresh 3 tile.

Triple Threat Dragon Rush gains +25 power, but Pecking Order increases the sync move’s damage the more the opponent’s Attack is lowered. You could start the beginning of the fight with Breaking Swipe and switch to Dragon Rush after the opponent hits minimum Attack or deal more damage right away with an ally dealing with stat alterations.

Sync Nuke Build (Sync Level 3/5)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

(Build Link)

Unique Upgrades:

HP +10

Attack +5

Defense +5

Sp. Atk +20

Sp. Def +5

Breaking Swipe Power +4

Snarl Power +4

Triple Threat Dragon Rush Power +50

Devastation

Pecking Order

Focusing solely on Triple Threat Dragon Rush leaves you no energy to invest in any other attack, but foes will struggle to stand against it. Hydreigon’s sync move gains +50 power but Devastation and Pecking Order are the real stars in this build. Each skill increases her sync move damage based on how much the target’s Sp. Atk or Attack, respectively, has been lowered.

No other sync pair will lower both as well as Hydreigon, but having an ally focus on Sp. Atk and Hydreigon on Attack will help speed it up. Getting the refresh on Three Heads! is very important to this build unless you have allies that will help Hydreigon’s Attack and critical-hit rate.
