Pokémon Masters EX: Best Caitlyn Sync Grid Builds

Despite being a Strike sync pair, Caitlyn & Reuniclus are best used as a Supporter to other Strike pairs. Their grid gave them great staying power in the form of two ways to continually heal themselves as well as plenty of tiles that increase their HP, Defense, or Sp. Def. So much of their grid is tied up in several key skills that the freedom comes only in how to reach those tiles plus one or two other abilities.

The best sync grid build for Caitlyn & Reuniclus would be to go for Hidden Power Move Gauge Refresh, Don’t Bore Me! MP Refresh, Catalytic Cure, Healthy Healing, and Revenge Boost.

Sync Grid Builds

Come Sand or Snow (2/5) is a sync level 2 build that makes the sync pair suitable for, you guessed it, sand or hail teams. Turn It Up (3/5) focuses on boosting ally Sp. Atk while damaging the foes. Finally, Cell Splitting (3/5) works to speed up the time until the sync move is ready by potentially reducing the countdown by one each time Hidden Power is used.

Come Sand or Snow is already a sync level 2 build, but it functions as a good basis for any of your own modifications. Both Turn It Up and Cell Splitting lose out on the skill tile that the build focuses around, so neither are recommended until you’ve unlocked the entire grid.

Universal Upgrades

  • HP +20
  • Defense +5
  • Sp. Atk +10
  • Sp. Def +15
  • Speed +5
  • Hidden Power Move Gauge Refresh 4
  • Don’t Bore Me! MP Refresh 3
  • Catalytic Cure 2
  • Healthy Healing
  • Revenge Boost 4

Universal Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Vigilance, Stoic 2

Many of Caitlyn & Reuniclus’s tiles are within every build because her general purpose of soaking up damage doesn’t change. Since she is meant to be the target for the opponent’s attacks, picking up +HP, +Defense, and +Sp. Def tiles are more important than increasing their damage.

What makes Reuniclus so difficult to take down is a combination of Healthy Healing and Catalytic Cure 2. If Reuniclus enters the battle with full HP, Healthy Healing will activate and give her regeneration, which will heal her each time she performs an attack. Catalytic Cure 2 will also restore 20% of Reuniclus’s max HP after a move is successful.

This explains why Hidden Power is the preferred attack over Psychic. With Hidden Power Move Gauge Refresh 4, it will restore one bar on the move gauge half of the time. Being able to cheaply attack to heal HP is Reuniclus’s goal after setting up with Don’t Bore Me!

Don’t Bore Me! may raise Sp. Atk by +2, but it is the +1 to Defense and Sp. Def that makes Don’t Bore Me! MP Refresh 3 feature in every build. Finally, whenever Reuniclus is hit by an attack move, there is a 50% chance that Revenge Boost 4 will activate and charge the move gauge by one.

As with any defensive sync pair, picking up Vigilance is one of the best ways to go with a lucky skill. It will stop any critical hits from bypassing all Defense or Sp. Def buffs. If you’re low on cookies, picking up Stoic 2 for a chance to help raise Reuniclus’s Defense with each attack is not a bad idea either.

Come Sand or Snow Build (Sync Level 2/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • HP +20
  • Defense +20
  • Sp. Def +10
  • Hidden Power Power +4
  • Sand Shelter / Snow Shelter

This build will work whether you are putting Caitlyn & Reuniclus in a sand team or hail team, since the last three Energy is spent on picking up Sand Shelter or Snow Shelter, which will protect Reuniclus from damage from a sandstorm or hailstorm, respectively.

The remaining tiles are taken up by buffing up Reuniclus’s health and defenses as much as possible. Plus one tile to make Hidden Power more powerful.

Turn It Up Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738
Total Energy Used: 59
Unique Upgrades:

  • HP +20
  • Defense +10
  • Hidden Power Power +8
  • Hidden Power Hype Up 1

2/5 Variation:
Not recommended

Caitlyn & Reuniclus have limited abilities to help allies out besides functioning as the tank of the team. Their biggest contribution to allies is in their move gauge restoration, but they can also assist allies in one other way.

Hidden Power Hype Up 1 has a small chance to increase the Sp. Atk of all allies whenever Reuniclus uses the move. This may free up space on other sync pairs that need to spend energy on MP Refresh tiles to otherwise max out the team’s Sp. Atk.

When limited to sync level 2, the only tile that you do not have access to is Hype Up 1, which is the reason for this build.

Cell Splitting Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Defense +10
  • Sp. Def +10
  • Hidden Power Propulsion 1
  • Natural Remedy

2/5 Variation:
Not recommended

Once Caitlyn & Reuniclus have used up their Don’t Bore Me! uses, they function more or less as a sponge for damage. Their reason for attacking with Hidden Power is to restore health and count down the sync move gauge. This build tries to help the sync team reach the sync move faster.

Hidden Power Propulsion 1 has a small chance to reduce the sync move countdown by one each time Hidden Power successfully hits. While a small chance, outpacing the opponent with sync moves can be a powerful advantage.

In order to reach Healthy Healing and Catalytic Cure 2, the build picks up Natural Remedy, which will remove all status conditions from Reuniclus once she is inflicted with one, but only once per battle.

At sync level 2, Hidden Power Propulsion 1 is the only tile you do not have access to, so there is no reason to use this build.
