Pokémon Masters: Best Professor Oak Sync Grid Build

Professor Oak has come to Pasio along with the Legendary Mew. After a short cutscene with Red and Blue, players will receive this Sync Pair for free! On first look, the Sync Grid is a bit intimidating, with many different paths. Which Sync Grid build is the way to go?

The best Sync Grid build for Professor Oak would be to go for one of these builds:

  • Icy AoE
  • Ice & Fire
  • Firebender
  • Psy-Bulk
  • Speed Demon

Detailed explanations are below!

Sync Grid Builds

The Sync Grid build you choose is entirely up to you! Depending on your playstyle, you may choose one over the other.

Icy AoE

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

Total Upgrades:

  • Agile Entry 2
  • Blizzard Accuracy + 20
  • Blizzard Power + 15
  • Defense + 5
  • HP + 30
  • Pokémon Professor Psychic Power + 25
  • Psychic Power + 4
  • Sp. Atk + 25
  • Sp.Def + 5
  • Speed + 10
  • Speed + 5
  • Swift Power + 15
  • Swift: Move Gauge Refresh 3

This build is focused on AoE (area-of-effect) damage. Mew will charge up with the powered up Swift and then use its Sync Move to then unleash Blizzard on your opponents. Use this build if you want Mew to be a deadly Ice-type AoE attacker.

We build towards Agile Entry 2 to get that speed boost to charge the Sync Move quickly. Swift: Move Gauge Refresh 3 speeds up this process as well, and since we upgrade Swift: Power it will definitely hurt. With Blizzard Accuracy, Blizzard becomes effective even without Hail.

Ice & Fire

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738

Total Energy Used: 59

Total Upgrades:

  • Blizzard Accuracy + 20
  • Blizzard Power + 15
  • Defense + 5
  • Dirty Fighting 3 – Powers up moves when the move’s target or targets are affected by a status condition.
  • Fire Blast Power + 15
  • HP + 10
  • Hostile Environment 1
  • Sp. Atk + 20
  • Sp.Def + 5
  • Speed + 25
  • Thunder Power + 5
  • Weather Surge 3 – Powers up moves when weather conditions are in effect.

Mew is not quite a dragon, but will be able to spit ice and fire with this build. Mew will become a versatile attacker with this build, being able to dish out Ice-type and Fire-type attacks. This build is for a more active-playstyle, as players will need to use weather moves.

This build relies heavily on post-Sync Move (form change) to really be effective. But with the correct setup, Mew will be able to deal a lot of damage. Hostile Environment 1 and Dirty Fighting 3 both synergize with the burn or freeze that Fire Blast or Blizzard can inflict, respectively. Weather Surge 3 will require a weather setup from either your Co-op partners or your other Sync Pairs.

Firebender

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

Total Upgrades:

  • Defense + 5
  • Dirty Fighting 3 – Powers up moves when the move’s target or targets are affected by a status condition.
  • Fire Blast Accuracy + 10
  • Fire Blast Power + 15
  • HP + 10
  • Hostile Environment 1
  • Sp. Atk + 25
  • Sp.Def + 5
  • Special Reserves 2 – Once per battle, sharply raises the user’s Sp. Atk when in a pinch.
  • Speed + 15
  • Thunder Accuracy + 20
  • Thunder Power + 15

Harness the heat of fire and controlled chaos of thunder with this build. This build’s name comes from the series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and is quite fitting. Use this build to turn Mew into a Firebender.

This isn’t just a novelty build. This build is great for missions with opponents that have a weakness to Thunder-type or Fire-type. Similar to the Ice & Fire build, Mew becomes versatile. Instead of Ice, you’ll have Thunder. You’re not required to be as active with this build, because of the lack of Weather Surge and the upgraded Thunder Accuracy. In fact, this build is more oriented towards an auto-battling playstyle.

Psy-Bulk

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

Total Upgrades:

  • A World of Dreams! MP Refresh 3
  • Defense + 15
  • First Aid 4
  • HP + 50
  • Natural Remedy – Once per battle, removes all status conditions from the user when the user is inflicted by any status condition.
  • Psychic Power + 12
  • Shifty Striker 2 – Occasionally raises the user’s evasiveness when the user’s Pokémon uses a move.
  • Sp. Atk + 15
  • Sp. Def + 25
  • Speed + 5

Mew is already bulky, and with this build becomes even bulkier. With a few additional survival upgrades like Natural Remedy and Shifty Striker 2, Mew becomes difficult to defeat. Use this build if you want Mew to tank like a boss!

Psychic will be Mew’s main way of damage dealing, so this is a good early-game build. Mew will be spamming Psychic and be able to tank hits. A World of Dreams!: MP Refresh 3 can give Mew even more tankiness with extra Defense, Sp. Def, or evasiveness.

Speed Demon

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750

Total Energy Used: 60

Total Upgrades:

  • Agile Entry 2
  • Blind Spot – The more the user’s evasiveness has been raised, the more it powers up sync moves.
  • Defense + 5
  • HP + 30
  • Inertia – The higher the user’s Speed, the more it powers up sync moves.
  • Pokémon Professor Psychic Power + 25
  • Psychic Power + 8
  • Shifty Striker 2 – Occasionally raises the user’s evasiveness when the user’s Pokémon uses a move.
  • Sp. Atk + 15
  • Sp.Def + 5
  • Speed + 25

This is another early-game build. All the power of this build comes from the speed and evasiveness boost that each upgrade provides. Inertia, Shifty Striker 2, and Agile Entry 2, all do their job to turn Mew into a blur.

We upgrade Blind Spot to give Oak & Mew’s Sync Move a decent punch. If RNG (random number generation) is on your side, you’ll be able to dodge and weave through attacks and speed your way through at least two Sync Moves before fainting.

Which build should you use?

Like I mentioned, it all depends on your playstyle, whether you’re going for a more manual or auto-battle style. For me, personally, I will be going for the Firebender build because I’m more of an auto-battle player.

How to farm Professor Oak Sync Orbs

If your Professor Oak & Mew is at Lv. 75 or 90:

On auto, bring Professor Oak & Mew, Roxanne & Nosepass, and Rosa & Serperior to the Super Hard Support Course. With the team above, Oak & Mew will always use their Sync Move to finish off the mission. Use your best gear to speed up the process.

If they’re at Lv. 110:

On auto, bring Professor Oak & Mew, Player & Torchic, and Rosa & Serperior to the Ultra Hard Strike Course. This mission will have similar results to the above, but is better suited to finishing the Professor Oak Event missions. Oak & Mew will likely use Blizzard to finish off the round. Again, use your best gear.
