Pokémon Masters: Best Lance Sync Grid Builds

Lance & Dragonite are the last Pokéfair sync pair to gain a grid and it was needed to improve a rather lackluster moveset for the Kanto Champion and his signature Pokémon. Hyper Beam’s high cost and the pair’s inability to buff their own stats left them on the sidelines as Iris & Haxorus’s sync grid propelled them to the physical Striker of choice. Their sync grid doesn’t come with many surprises, but with the right setup, they can strike a terrifying blow to an opponent.

The best sync grid build for Lance & Dragonite would be to go for a Hyper Beam-focused build. Build towards Potion MP Refresh and Hyper Beam Move Gauge Refresh.

Sync Grid Builds

Unfortunately, almost all of the tiles needed for a powerful build are locked behind sync level 3 that any sync level 2 variations are weak impostors. Instead, Enraged Claws (2/5) uses the best of what is available to become a unique build by focusing on Dragonite’s powerful Attack stat.

Critical Beam (3/5) goes all-in on the Hyper Beam after using their sync move to create one overwhelmingly powerful attack. Like Old Times, But Better (3/5) will be very familiar if you’ve had Lance & Dragonite for a while since it keeps to their standard playstyle of Hyper Beam and Potion.

Universal Upgrades

  • HP +10
  • Attack +5
  • Defense +5
  • Sp. Attack +10
  • Sp. Defense +5
  • Speed +5

Universal Lucky Skill Recommendation:
None

Because many of Dragonite’s best abilities are locked behind sync level 3, Enraged Claws must pick up and focus on tiles not even considered in the other two builds. The same can be said of lucky skills.

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Attack +5
  • Defense +5
  • Sp. Attack +5
  • Sp. Defense +15
  • Dragon Claw Power +4
  • Dragon Claw Move Gauge Refresh 3
  • Dragon Claw Mad Strength 2
  • Hyper Beam Move Gauge Refresh 4
  • Potion MP Refresh 2
  • Potion MP Refresh 2
  • Unrivaled Outrage Power +50

Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Defense Crush 2

Lacking all abilities to help empower Hyper Beam, this build focuses on Dragonite’s physical damage through Dragon Claw and Unrivaled Outrage. You’ll only need one more pull of Lance & Dragonite to unleash their true potential.

The build still picks up Hyper Beam Move Gauge Refresh 4 because it can still be the tool you need or may find to be more useful. Grabbing both Potion MP Refresh 2 tiles is always very handy, especially if you plan on using the sync pair in Battle Villa.

Dragon Claw’s power is much less impressive than Hyper Beam’s, but it does cost only two bars. The build picks up Dragon Claw Move Gauge Refresh 3 to more quickly count down the sync gauge.

More importantly, Dragon Claw also gains Mad Strength 2, which has a chance to boost Dragonite’s Attack. Dragonite does not have any way to improve his stats normally, having to rely on teammates. Combined with the lucky skill Defense Crush 2, which can lower the target’s Defense with a successful attack. With +50 power on Unrivaled Outrage, this build synergizes well focusing on physical attacks.

Critical Beam Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 738
Total Energy Used: 59
Unique Upgrades:

  • Sp. Attack +5
  • Sp. Defense +15
  • Hyper Beam Power +3
  • Hyper Beam Accuracy +10
  • Unrivaled Outrage Power +75
  • Build Up
  • Rejuvenate 6

Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Critical Strike 2, Power Flux 3

2/5 Variation:
Not recommended

This build goes all in on making an extremely powerful Hyper Beam by giving up everything else.

To not waste all the hard work, Hyper Beam gains +10 to raise accuracy to 100. Because the key abilities rely on Dragonite’s sync move, the build picks up +75 power to Unrivaled Outrage to help damage an opponent.

Once their sync move is used, both Rejuvenate 6 and Build Up will activate. Rejuvenate 6 will refill the move gauge by six bars, filling it up completely. Build Up ensures the next attack will be a critical hit.

Picking up Critical Strike 2 for the lucky ability will activate with this Hyper Beam but Power Flux 3 would also be a good choice because it will increase damage for every move. You’ll want an ally to boost Dragonite’s Sp. Attack as the last piece of the puzzle to devastate an opponent.

Like Old Times, But Better Build (Sync Level 3/5)

(build link)

Total Sync Orb Cost: 750
Total Energy Used: 60
Unique Upgrades:

  • Hyper Beam Power +6
  • Hyper Beam Accuracy +10
  • Hyper Beam Move Gauge Refresh 4
  • Potion MP Refresh 2
  • Potion MP Refresh 2
  • Unrivaled Outrage Power +50
  • Rejuvenate 6

Lucky Skill Recommendation:
Power Flux 3

2/5 Variation:
Not recommended

As a good balance between supporting themselves and dealing damage, this build functions the way Lance & Dragonite were used before their sync grid expanded.

Using Hyper Beam as the primary attack, it picks up +10 accuracy and a Move Gauge Refresh 4. Each time you use Hyper Beam, there will be a 50% chance to regain one bar on the move gauge. The attack gains a modest +6 power to use up the remaining energy.

Picking up both Potion MP Refresh 2 tiles means that with each use there will be a 30% chance for one or the other to activate. Their chances are rolled separately, so you may be able to regain both uses of Potion.

Finally, Unrivaled Outrage gains +50 power and will activate Rejuvenate 6 when you use Dragonite’s sync move. Rejuvenate 6 refills the move gauge completely after the sync move is used, which is why Power Flux 3 is the recommended lucky skill. The fuller the move gauge, the more Power Flux 3 increases Dragonite’s move damage.
