Flames are another way that you can power up your gear and get bonus stats. There are however, different types of flames, different flame tiers, and flame restrictions. This guide will help you understand what can be flamed and what you should try to aim for. This guide is mainly for Reboot since that’s where I am but should be applicable to non-reboot as well.
Flames give bonus stats and the tier you should aim for is tier 6 or 7. Use the Flame Score method in order to determine whether your current flames are good or not.
What To Know Before You Read
Flame Bonus Stats have 7 tiers with each tier being better than the previous. But, only Flame Advantage Items can achieve tier 6-7 flames.
Flame Advantage items are ones that can be obtained through bosses (more on this below).
Eternal Rebirth Flames are guaranteed tier 2 (tier 4 if item has flame advantage).
It is not the best idea to try and get your items to the top tier when you are still mid game. Soloing CRA is mid game and Damien and Lotus party clears are in the late game. Mid game you’ll want to focus more on Starforce and your Weapon, Secondary, Emblem potential lines.
We will be using something called a Flame Score to determine how good your bonus stats are and will help you decide if you want to reflame or not.
What Are Flames?
Flames are used to give your item bonus stats and like a cube it has a random range of options it can give. Bonus stats are the +Green numbers on your item.
Flames are these shard like items that look to be on fire. In Reboot you can obtain Powerful Rebirth Flame, Eternal Rebirth Flame, and Black Rebirth Flame. The difference between the flames are the chances of getting better stats. It goes, Black = Eternal > Powerful with Black Rebirth flames allowing you to choose between previous or new changes, like a Black Cube.
The higher level the item the better the flames you can receive. Also, some items have terrible flame stats like the Sweetwater equips. This is where transposing comes in since you can transfer over your bonus stats and their tier level. Let me know if you’d like to know more about transposing.
In non-reboot there are a bunch of other looking flames but those are mainly level dependent flames like lvl. 120 and below and such.
Where to Get Flames?
Flames can be obtained through shops and boss drops.
Henesys and Leafre Potion Shop | Boss Drop | Event Coin Shops | Legion Coin Shop | |
Powerful Rebirth Flame | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Eternal Rebirth Flame | No | Yes | Yes | No |
Black Rebirth Flame | No | No | Yes | No |
Other ways for Powerful Rebirth and Eternal Rebirth Flame drops are, Harvesting Veins, Bounty Pouches, Monster Collection, and Sudden Missions. But, these have a very low chance of them dropping.

Flame Score
What Is a Flame Score?
An easy way to determine if your flame bonus stats are good is to give it a score and then rank it based on where you are at in the game. This is a method I learned from Scardor so full credit to him!
How to Calculate Flame Score
To calculate flame score it is, (Main Stat + (Weapon/Magic Attack x 4) + (% All Stat x 8) + (Secondary Stat/8)). If you are a bit lazy and want some way to record your items and their flame scores you can use this link. In this calculator your secondary stat also plays a factor in your flame score. Note that Weapon Flame Tier is in a different section and uses a different metric to determine their tier.
For example,
Main Stat (DEX)- 72
Attack Power – 0
% All Stat – 0
Secondary Stat (STR) – 32
In the above image (72 + (0) + (0) + (32/8)) = Flame Score 76
What Is A Good Flame Score?
A good Flame Score depends on what stage of the game you are at.
Early | Mid | Late | End | |
Flame Score | 0-40 | 40-75 | 75-100 | 100-160 |
Determining Factor | Lvl. 1-180 Can Solo NHilla, Normal Root Abyss, Normal Horntail | Lvl. 180-220 Can Solo Chaos Horntail, Pink Bean, HMag | Lvl. 220-250 Can Solo CRA, Damien, Lotus | Lvl. 250+ Hard Bosses with party (Lucid,Lotus,Damien, Will, Gloom, VHilla) |
Anything within the range of the flame score is a good one to keep till you reach the next level of gameplay.
Certain equips are capped out at their flame score since they cannot get up to tier 7. Only Flame Advantage Equips can get to Tier 7.
Flame Advantage Equips
Flame Advantage Equips are equips that can reach Tier 7. These are equips that are ones that drop from bosses. Flame Advantage isn’t determined by a specific drop, it is determined by the name of the item. For example, all Dea Sidus Earrings have Flame Advantage no matter what the stats look like when you first receive it, it can achieve tier 7 flame bonus stat.
If an item is not classified with Flame Advantage (Pensalir Gear), no matter how many flames you put into it, it will never achieve a tier 7 bonus stat. Do not waste your flames on items that are not Flame Advantaged. This means don’t waste your time flaming Pensalir Gear.

When To Flame Items
When it comes to MapleStory there is a progression you should follow or else you end up wasting a lot of meso and time. After you get your desired item, hopefully flame advantaged, you should Starforce it and get some potential lines of main stat. By then you should have some flames saved up and use them on your item.
Don’t invest too much into the item if you know you’ll be replacing the item soon. Unless you can Transfer Hammer it over since the flames can transfer. You can only transfer items that are within a 10 level difference and have at least 1 Starforce.
