Pokémon Masters: Is it Worth Rolling for Dawn & Turtwig?

The Grass-type Sync Pair Dawn & Turtwig hails from the Sinnoh region, but is her skills at Pokémon Contests enough to make her worth scouting?

Dawn & Turtwig are worth it when your main Striker doesn’t need to use their Sync Move. They have great bulk, excellent Attack for a Support Pair, are able to heal an ally, and have a versatile Sync Grid.

Is it worth rolling for Dawn & Turtwig?

Maybe, if you can invest in her. Dawn & Turtwig will need ⅗ sync level in order to really make her shine and is better suited for single player and co-op than Battle Villa.

Dawn’s Good as New! move is a one time only Full Restore, completely refilling an ally’s HP and curing them of any status conditions, as well as confused, flinching, and trapped conditions. However, it will not remove any debuffs such as Attack Down and it also cannot be used on Turtwig. The pair’s Sync Grid does not grant Good as New! an MP Refresh, so Dawn & Turtwig won’t see much use in Battle Villa.

This Sync Pair benefits from being targeted first because of the passive ability Power Siphon 9 lowering an opponent’s Attack when Turtwig is hit by an attack move. Their high HP, Defense and Special Defense make them have great staying power.

The passive ability Vigilance also helps their bulk by making the pair immune to critical hits. This makes her excellent for single player content that uses squad tactics since the AI will exclusively focus on Turtwig. In Co-op, the AI will target all Sync Pairs, so it limits how much Power Siphon will be effective.

For a support pair, their Attack is top tier, and of all Grass-type sync pairs, they are beaten only by Brendan & Treecko. However, the pair’s biggest drawback is their low Speed. Seed Bomb uses 3 bars and the gauge will be slow to refill unless you bring other high Speed pairs or buff Turtwig’s Speed.

Razor Leaf currently causes lag in-game, so you may not want to rely on it until they fix this issue. However, many of the best abilities do not rely on Turtwig using any moves, so you can freely use their allies’ attacking moves.

Dawn & Turtwig will see use for their Sync Move New Dawn Wood Hammer. Its power increases with Turtwig’s Attack buffs, so they’ll work best with pairs that don’t rely on a Sync Move to power up, such as Megas or Ho-oh’s Solarize ability.

In conclusion, Dawn & Turtwig could have a place in several teams as a bulky, debuffing tank with a powerful Sync Move, but she requires a lot of resources to make her good. Consider rolling her if you lack Brendan or another strong defensive Sync Pair.
