Fate/Grand Order: Should you roll on Napoleon Pick-up Summon Banner?

Well, the ‘Good Fellow of Everlasting Flame certainly has an interesting title but does the first Emperor of France stand up to his competition? The Archer class is famously stacked with some of the game’s very best SSRs and this can make it pretty hard for new entries to get traction when they show up. Worse, Napoleon’s sporting an AoE NP, a semi-supportive kit with NP damage and crit benefits, and a battery. If this is all beginning to sound a bit familiar I don’t blame you. Keep in mind that the global server Third Anniversary is unbelievably close!

Napoleon is good, bordering on great and in a vacuum, he’s absolutely worth rolling for, if you don’t have Gilgamesh and Tesla. If you are in need of a great supporter with Fire Support, this is the one for you.

Banner Composition

There’s really not a lot to discuss here. Unlike the common rotating banners we’ve gotten used to, this one’s very cut and dry. No CE rate-ups, no lower rarity servant rate-ups. It’s just Napoleon the whole way down. He’s also not limited, so he’ll be joining the story pool at vastly reduced rates after this. Roll any day you like!

Is it worth rolling for Napoleon?

Maybe. As above, on his face, he’s pretty good, he’s got an upgraded Innocent Monster style skill in Light of Possibilities, Fire Support gives an uncommon party-wide NP damage, and Triumphant Charisma is one of the few Charisma-plus skills where the extra 20% is directed where you’d probably most like it. Unfortunately, if you feel like you’ve heard this song before, you’re right. His skills are painfully similar to Tesla’s to the point that he feels a bit like an alternate version of him rather than his own character. Tesla was already extremely similar to Gilgamesh, so the three conflict on a lot of points. Probably the most unique feature here is Fire Support so if that skill, in particular, fills a niche you need, you’re in luck.

He also is coming out at a pretty inopportune time, and ignoring that would be a little unfair. Unlike many events, which may get rescheduled compared to their timing on the home server, the Anniversary doesn’t move. It’s right around the corner and the character coming with it is extremely good. It may be better to wait as Napoleon is a permanent addition and likely to show up again soon, while limited characters near him may go a year or more before you have another chance.

At greater length, Triumphant Charisma is patterned like a number of other skills you’re probably familiar with. In the style of Jalter’s Dragon Witch or Moriarty’s Evil Charisma, you have a standard 20% Attack up with an upside. However, both of them give out their bonus to other servants with particular traits, but not themselves. Napoleon flips this on its head; his Charisma essentially pulls double duty as a mana burst style skill. It’s an interesting setup that gives him both burst and staying power.

Fire Support is a huge boon to everything you’d want when paired with Arc de Triomphe. It’ll be stronger, and pile on the crit stars in equal measure. Keep in mind it’s party-wide, where both Tesla and Gil are a lot more selfish. It’s gonna be pretty difficult to come up with a chain that doesn’t produce a lot of stars with this running, every hit of every card will produce at least one star if you have it at level 10. Yes, that includes NPs; Arc de Triomphe will produce a minimum of 15 stars with Fire Support on. Unfortunately, the NP damage benefit can end up being a bit overkill. A dead wave is a dead wave, but it only lasts one turn, so the party-wide part can end up being a bit moot if there’s no boss around on a wave.
Finally, perhaps the skill that seems the most derivative; Light of Possibilities is a mid-level NP battery stapled onto an Innocent Monster effect. It’s probably the skill that feels most like it was lifted off of another character, but it does shift a lot of focus to crit stars compared to Pioneer of the Stars, the skill it can feel a lot like. It’s still great for NP charge, and it produces piles of stars. On top of the utility, its invincibility ignore pairs with Arc de Triomphe’s defense ignore, allowing Napoleon to ignore everything short of special boss mechanics that would lower his damage. This works out to be quite the damage increase over the characters he compares to if there are enemies who stack defense skills in your way.
