Epic Seven – Comprehensive Wyvern 13 Hunt Guide

Welcome to Digital Crown’s Wyvern 13 guide. The reason as to why Wyvern has so much importance over other Hunts is because it drops three of the most important drops in the game, Critical Chance Set, and Speed Set, and converted mats to upgrade your Lv. 85 gear to Lv. 90 gear.

As of 4/30 Epic seven has removed Lv. 75 gear from the loot table but the rates stayed the same.

The way to think about Wyvern 13 is it’s all about creating space for your DPS. You can do this by applying debuffs and either Running It Down or chipping at him slowly. You will find a comprehensive guide down below on how to exactly achieve this.

Team Composition

Consistency is Key when making a Wyvern 13 team. It is paramount that you are able to consistently and reliably apply two debuffs before every turn. For a majority of players

Minimum Requirements Needed

  • Frontline Tank
  • At least 2 debuffs consistently
  • DPS with Daydream joker
  • Defense Breaker

Defense break is important because it allows you to reach the damage threshold to break Wyvern’s shield phase. There is a lot of leeway on how to build your team if you just follow these guidelines.

Factors to consider when making a perfect team are attack buffs and AoE (area of effect) DPS. Having these two things on a team will greatly decrease the overall run time, however it is not worth sacrificing the consistency of runs for early-mid game players. Lastly, I recommend you wait till an Unequip event comes around to make minor adjustments to your team and optimize it further.

Standard Team Compositions

A standard team composition has all the core components to successfully complete Wyvern 13. This type of team maximizes consistency over speed.

  • Frontline Tank / Main Debuffer / DPS / Healer
  • Frontline Tank / DPS (with debuffs) / DPS (with debuffs) / Healer

Crozet – Sword of Ezera

Taranor Guard – Junkyard Dog

Seaside Bellona – Daydream Joker

Diene – Rod of Amaryllis

Crozet is a top tier tank accessible to everyone in Hero Connections. He excels at increasing the survivability of your team by closing the window of opportunity for Wyvern to one shot someone on the off chance you don’t get two debuffs off. His S1 has a small chance to apply attack down debuff further decreasing the variance of your runs.

Taranor Guard is our main debuffer and defense breaker. He provides a defense break and a 25% CR (combat readiness) push to his team every time he dual attacks. It is important that Taranor Guard has 200 speed giving him the maximum amount of turns which decreases variance.

Seaside Bellona is our AoE DPS/debuffer. If built strong enough she can help clear the first wave quickly allowing for a faster run time. Her target debuff and defense break are extremely helpful in increasing the team overall damage output.

Diene is here to provide an attack buff and a barrier further increasing the damage output and survivability of the team. She needs to be the fastest person on your team.

Angelica – Idol’s Cheer/Proof of Valor

Sigret – Daydream Joker

Seaside Bellona – Daydream Joker

Diene – Rod of Amaryllis/Magahara Tome

Angelica functions the same way Crozet does in terms of providing survivability to her team. She heals for a substantial amount and her barrier prevents the team from getting one shot. Her recommended artifact is Idol’s Cheer, but if the situation calls for more bulk she can opt for Proof of Valor.

Sigret – The Queen of Megane Wyvern is here.

Seaside Bellona is here to help kill adds (additional mobs), debuff, and defense break.

Diene – Amplifies the team damage with attack buff and mitigates damage with her barrier. Magahara’s Tome for more turn cycling or Rod of Amaryllis for some extra healing depending on the situation.

Run It Down Team Compositions

Due to Wyvern’s increased health pool, it is almost impossible to one shot it so the next best composition you can hope for is a Run It Down Team (RIDT) consisting of a Offensive Frontline Tank, Main Debuffer, and two DPS. A RIDT boasts the highest efficiency out of all compositions by maximizing damage while retaining high levels of consistency.

A RIDT is a team that maximizes offense without sacrificing consistency. The team composition should consist of units that can do two or more roles.

  • Frontline Tank (with attack buff) / DPS (with debuff) / AoE DPS (with debuff) / DPS
  • Frontline Tank / Attack Buffer (healer) / AoE DPS / Semi DPS (with debuffs, preferably defense break)

General Purrgis – Proof of Valor – 160 speed

Alexa – Daydream Joker – 125 speed

Seaside Bellona – Daydream Joker – 210 speed

Taranor Guard – Daydream Joker/Junkyard Dog – 225 speed

General Purrgis is the best offensive tank out there. He provides the team with an attack buff in addition to pushing forward his team’s CR every time he gets attacked. Taking into account that non-Ice elemental units take an extra 30% damage it would be wise to take Proof of Valor to increase his survivability. He just needs to be the team’s meat shield until Wyvern is slain.

Alexa is considered one of the best budget DPS for Wyvern requiring NO Mola (MolaGora) investment. She is there to provide pure DPS so you want to run her on auto with skills off.

Seaside Bellona – Her purpose on the team is to help kill adds on the first stage, and act as a secondary debuffer and DPS. You want her 10 speed slower than Taranor Guard so she doesn’t end up going after the defense breaker. The important stats you want to go for is 85% crit chance, and as much crit damage as possible, and 65 effectiveness. You can sacrifice attack stat value to achieve these stats.

Taranor Guard – He is our chosen defense breaker. You can use DDJ (Daydream Joker) or Junkyard Dog depending on what your setup needs. By having exactly 100 speed over Alexa, Taranor Guard is able to go right before Alexa which in turn gives her a chance to dish out the maximum amount of damage.

Wyvern Team Heroes

Before I get into the nuances of Wyvern 13, I want everyone to remind everyone one thing when making a W13 team and that is, Consistency is King. You will NOT be one-shotting Wyvern so don’t prioritize too much on damage. Down below are the best heroes suited for each role.

Tank

The role of the frontline tank is very important and they will need as much HP/Defense/Speed/Eff. Resistance in that order. The effect resistance stat is used to resist the CR push back from Wyvern but, it’s not necessary as the tank’s only job is to, well, tank.

Crozet one of the best, if not the best defensive tank for W13. He has an attack down on his S1 to help with debuffs and his S2 provides a barrier to allies that fall below 50% HP and grants them a defense buff. This means even if you don’t get two or more debuffs on Wyvern, he won’t kill your DPS allowing for more consistent runs.

Krau – is a good tank to build as he performs really well in both PvE and PvP. For mid to late game players I would not recommend that you deviate your Krau build specifically for Wyvern 13. He is such an amazing tank for PvP that it would be a waste to build him solely for PvE.

Tywin – is a great investment because he is useful in all aspects of the game, and these types of heroes that perform well in multiple areas of the game are an efficient use of your resources. He provides great morale for raids, is regularly used in PvP to cleave, and is a solid tank for Wyvern.  His S2 provides a critical chance buff, attack buff, and a 30% CR push to one ally allowing you to skimp out on some crit. chance for some more critical damage. His S3 applies a defense break debuff to all enemies which is also very useful for Wyvern.

Angelica – With this newly updated Wyvern, Angelica has once again risen up to take back her seat as a top tier tank. There was no need to invest in Angelica before, because any tank would do for W11. But now she has a niche and excels in giving her team survivability. Her barrier can stall Wyvern for a turn on the off chance that you don’t get two debuffs off and on top of that she can heal a substantial amount with her S2. As a 4★ she is easily accessible and doesn’t need much investment.

General Purrgis – is more of an offensive tank. He provides an attack buff and CR push every time he is attacked so this lowers the speed requirements for your team if you so need it. He is most typically used in triple DPS compositions where you just try to rush Wyvern down as fast as possible.

Angelic Montmorancy – is just the run of the mill healer tank. She’s one of the better choices to build as a tank because her PvP build is exactly the same as her PvE build. This is an important factor that is worth considering for early to mid-game players because of the limited amount of gear to go around.

Diene – is a very bad choice as a frontline tank as she can not withstand the damage from Wyvern unless you can rush it down or have a secondary healer to support her. However, she is a very good support and can round out a lot of teams by providing a barrier, a 3-turn attack/critical resistance buff, and some minor healing with Rod of Amaryllis.

Honorable Mention

ENOTT he can fulfill two roles as a debuffer and a tank. You want to build him with a Junkyard Dog and counter set with as much defensive stats as possible. I would not recommend building him unless you like getting backstabbed!

DPS

How else do you intend to slay this beast?

Sigret We’re going to start off our DPS roster with a bang. This waifu right here is the DPS Queen of W13. She fulfills both the debuffing and DPS role on a team which gives you a lot of flexibility when creating a team. Her S1 and S2 can apply a bleed debuff and her S3 is a very strong nuke that scales with the amount of bleeds.

SSB (Seaside Bellona) Coming in hot is everyone’s favorite waifu SSB. Now I know what some of you might be thinking “Shouldn’t SSB be the DPS Queen of Wyvern?” But hear me out. Yes, she can apply more important debuffs like Target and Defense break which is better than Sigret’s bleeds debuff. And, yes she can help deal with the adds on the first wave faster than Sigret. SSB, however, is severely lacking in one department. No megane

On a serious note SSB is a very strong and flexible unit to bring to Wyvern. Her kit gives you everything you need to clear Wyvern faster and more consistently. If Epic Seven were to release SSB again, this would be one of the few heroes that you keep a dupe of. She has so much value geared as a PvP unit that it would be a shame to have her sit in Wyvern’s cave all day.

Alexa One of the best budget DPS for Wyvern. Requires minimal investment.

Luna OG Dragon Waifu but unfortunately, an outdated Wyvern DPS. She still provides high single target DPS, lower gear requirements, and a defense break but there are better options. Again, Wyvern 13 is more about consistency than damage.

Chloe Very underrated DPS hero for Wyvern. She provides a guaranteed 3-turn debuff which essentially gives your whole team DDJ. This means even your Torn Sleeve Karin, Junkyard Dog Taranor Guard, healers, and your tanks will all do damage.

Kise Viable but not recommended. She has too many conditional skills in her kit. Having to wait for Wyvern’s barrier to come up for her S1 to have value and S3 being resisted makes her an unreliable DPS

Karin As someone who has her +15 I am not recommending that you build Karin. She has her strong points in that she is easily accessible as a 4★, has a self crit chance imprint, defense break, and excels at one shotting. The thing is, you can’t one shot Wyvern 13! Most of her damage comes from using S3 on a defense broken unit but due to the RNG aspect of debuffs it is very inconsistent and remember what I said in the beginning, Consistency is King. Karin just doesn’t do well as a primary DPS. It is better using Torn Sleeve in a Chloe comp (composition) or as a secondary DPS in a RIDT.

Yuna – is a viable unit but is not recommended because it’s hard to build a team around her. Provides Attack and Speed buff for two turns and has good AoE damage for the first wave lowering overall run time.

Luluca – Is a good AoE DPS with a defense break in her kit.

Main Debuffer

These are the units that focus solely on debuffing and providing utility.

Furious – He is the best debuffer by far. What makes him so good is that he is accessible to everyone by Hero Connection, has a team crit chance imprint, provides a 50% crit chance buff, a defense break, and burns on the S1. His reliability goes up even more with Song of Stars as his artifact. The downside is that he requires Mola.

Dizzy – If Sigret is the Queen of DPS, then Dizzy is the Queen of debuffs. She applies decreased attack, speed, and hit chance on her S3 and then she can extend the debuffs for one turn with her S2. She has tons of viable artifacts to help her maintain debuffs such as Etica’s Sceptear, Necro Undine, and Sira Ren.

Taranor Guard – Not many 3★s make it to this list but he’s an exception. Him being a 3★ means that he requires NO Mola at all and as a debuffer you can keep him at Lv. 50 since he is not there to do damage. His dual attacks push his whole team forward by 25% CR and has a 75% chance to proc defense break with an added chance to proc Junkyard Dog if you have it equipped. It is very important to run him on auto without skills.

Batisse Overlooked and underrated debuffer because he is not an Ice elemental unit. Being a 3★ unit that requires No Mola, having attack down on S2, defense down on S3, along with the fact that he can attack twice on S1 makes him a really good addition to your team if you decide to use him.

Recommended Artifacts

Proof of Valor – Best artifact to increase survivability for nNon-Knight Class units.

Sword of Erzea Best Knight artifact for increasing survivability and significantly decreasing the gear requirements to tank Wyvern.

Aurius This artifact is more well rounded as it increases consistency by increasing the survivability of the team as a whole on the off chance you don’t get two debuffs off.

Rod of Amaryllis Is Best in Slot (BIS) a majority of the time for Soul Weavers. It provides additional healing which is never a bad thing.

Idol’s Cheer A situational artifact for Soul Weavers if you’re planning to use them as a Frontline Tank and to increase the amount of turns your DPS gets.

Daydream Joker or DDJ for short, is still the best artifact for your damage dealing heroes due to Wyvern’s enormous health pool.

Junkyard Dog Honestly the only two viable ice heroes that can make use of it are Counter set Enott and Taranor Guard. This artifact is mainly used to increase the reliability of applying two debuffs to Wyvern.

Sira-Ren/Torn Sleeve/Song of Stars These artifacts are all used to increase the reliability of applying debuffs for their respective classes.

Shimadra’s Staff Rod of Amaryllis is just better in most situations.

Recommended Gear Requirements

Recommended Minimum Stat Values for DPS:

  • Attack: 3500
  • Crit Chance: 85% (Ice-Element), 35% (Furious and Ice-Element), 100% (Non Ice-Element)
  • Crit Damage: 275%
  • Effectiveness: 65% (if unit uses debuffs)

Priority is to get as much crit damage as possible because it scales well with DDJ. Your DPS units should be speed-tuned to go after your defense breaker if you have one.

Wyvern 13 Mechanics and Skills Overview

In order to create the most optimal or efficient team for the new content released, you need to first understand what Epic Seven has changed in the new Hunt 12 and 13. Hunt 12 is essentially the same as Hunt 11 but with higher stats.

Mechanics

Wyvern 13 on the other hand will have a couple of new gimmicks you have to consider when building your team. For starters Wyvern will be showing up with a whopping 233578 Health, 1941 Defense, 80 Effect Resist, and 243 Speed. On the first turn, Wyvern will always target your frontline tank, and will continue doing so if you have applied 2 or more debuffs. At 3 debuffs he will be doing reduced damage. He will attack 3 times with each attack reducing your CR by 10% and dispelling one buff. After every fourth turn, he will attack everyone, dispelling all debuffs and buffs.

With 80 Effect Resist, your debuffers will be needing a minimum of 65% effectiveness to land debuffs. Any additional effectiveness is pointless and will not add to the chance of you landing a debuff.

With Wyvern at 243 Speed, your units will need at least 196 Speed to gain the maximum number of turns before his barrier takes effect, which is every four turns. If you are using General Purrgis, your units will get a maximum of 3 turns before his barrier pops. Taking that into consideration, I would still recommend your units to have over 190 speed because it allows them to get even more turns and thus increasing the consistency of your runs.

Passive Skills

For the skill Fire’s Protection, Wyvern will gain 20% CR whenever a non-Ice elemental hero ends their turn, and whenever Wyvern attacks, your heroes cannot be healed. What this means is that in conjunction with Wyvern’s other skills, it is not optimal to do it with non-Ice elemental heroes.

It is highly recommended to use a mono Ice team so you don’t have to suffer the penalties of a 30% increased damage taken and 20% CR push advantage for Wyvern for being another element. Ice Heroes also have elemental advantage which gives 10% damage and 15% critical chance.

Further limiting the pool of heroes you can use for Wyvern 13 is his skill Super Acceleration. What it does is, it elevates the importance of debuffers. If you do not inflict two or more debuffs before his turn starts, he will attack a unit at random with a 40% base chance to attack your frontline unit. This adds a layer of RNG and failing to address this will decrease your overall success rate by a huge margin.

For me, games is where everything started. It’s the place where I developed my negotiating skills from sitting in the trade channel in Diablo 2 or the place where I found friends that I wouldn’t have, from halfway across the world. Games have given me many things and by writing I hope to give back to the community that has changed my life.
