In MapleStory bossing you need to deal at least 5% of the total HP in order to be able to see any loot from the boss.
Red Dot, Blue Dot, Green Dot
MapleStory has a visual representation while bossing of Red, Blue, and Green dots next to names in the party. Red meaning less than 5%, Blue meaning above 5% but less than 10%, and Green meaning 10% and more.
This system is not good if your only goal is to get 5% and get carried because it only calculates what percentage of damage is done currently and not of the total bosses HP. For example if the boss has 90% HP left and you’re blue dot, it just means you did 5% of the 10% HP and not 5% of the total 100% which you need to do.
Why Do You Need To Know The 5% HP Mark?
In MapleStory the best way to get equips and progress is to defeat bosses. But in order to get loot you need to deal at least 5% and this becomes even more important if you have a friend carrying you or your mules. You want to know exactly how much to do in order to not waste everyone’s time.
Best Way To Track 5% HP Done?
The best way is to do a Battle Analysis. It is not enough to just do 5% of the HP bar because sometimes bosses have different phases and they can heal which can mess you up. A Battle Analysis will track how much damage you are doing and once you’ve hit the 5% number you can stop and have your carry do the rest of the work.
Beware the Level and Arcane/Sac force penalties, explained below.
Boss’s HP Table and 5% HP
This list is made up of bosses that I think are important to do and the difficulty that gives you actual benefits where you might need to get carried.
One really important thing when it comes to bosses is how much Ignore Enemy Defense (IED) you have. At the start having visually 90% is good but past Chaos Vellum you’ll want closer to 94-95%. Very doable with a line of IED on your weapon, secondary or emblem plus hyper stats.
The 5% HP Total based on phases will bold which phase is the easiest to do. This way you can just worry about doing damage in a specific phase and then focus on surviving the rest of the fight without needing to deal anymore damage.
Make sure, if you’re not using a BA, that your partner is not hitting it at all for an accurate gauge of your damage.Also, your BA resets or goes away whenever you go into a new phase or change maps. Just keep that in mind and make sure to repop or only pop in your desired phase.

Your level matters when bossing. You can either do extra damage, normal damage, or reduced damage depending on your level compared to the boss.

Arcane Force/Sacred Force Bonus or Penalty
Some bosses have FD bonus and Penalties depending on how much Arcane Force / Sacred Force you have. Really helpful to know in case you’re doing reduced damage. Also, there is a cap to how much FD you can gain.
Arcane force is within a range that is dependent on the specific boss. You’ll see in the table above the AF ranges in order to deal an extra 10%,30%, or max 50% FD.

Sacred force is -10% FD for every 10 SAC under and +5% for every 10 SAC above.
This caps at +50 SAC over for a 25% FD gain.
